To Shackell - Yes, I did it

Description

The first thing I'll say: I am ashamed and I'm sorry for doing it after a LONG, LONG time - it's a traditional Kiriban pic, I don't know what number he has got(so, there's no mention to reference. The absence of your name in this pic was a failure of mine, and again, sorry).

About the style I did in this pic, I need to explain some things.

I wasn't with much time when he did his request - his character, Mordecai, stalking a victim in a greek like background - and when I have got a bit more of time, I could plan when I could do the work. But the early sketches was disastrous - I saw I couldn't do it i my traditional manga style.

What could I do? I was thinking about it and at same time I was doing another images, like Nicon character designs. And the idea comes - do it in a 70's comics style, Neal Adams-like, with great masses of black and use of hatched inkings. And colour it with plain colors, using the photoshop's plain colour filter to give to image the "old comic book feeling".

And I did it in nankin, using brushes and pens. Brushes are important. I based the style in two essential works: The Walt Simonson work in the classical "Manhunter" series, which were my big inspiration here aside the Frank Miller/Klaus Janson original Daredevil's run.

Under inspirations like this, I did it with pleasure! I have two styles of inking - a clean style(you can see it on my gunslinger north scans) and a quick and harsh style, Janson-influenced, which works very well here. I couldn't forget the Bill Sienkiewicz reference - his style become wild on 80's, but in his beginning(the Moon Knight run - yes, I read it) he was a Neal Adams disciple and even in his most characteristic inkings, you can see the Adams shadows anyway(something reminds his closes of Nick Fury in "Elektra: Assassin"?).

Okay, okay, let's stop the fanboy talk. ^_^

The fact is: When I complete the work, I saw the fact: there wasn't any space to colors there. It was a natural born black-and-white image. But I felt if I post it in Black and White, after so many time, it could be misunderstood as some kind of laziness. It was an artistic decision, I know, but what could you think?

I decided to do a bi-coloured work, to preserve the nankin. I hope you like it. I liked the inking process.

Again, Shackell, sorry. I hope you aren't disappointed with the image after so many time.
